( Date 05/03/2010 )AirAsia launches fares from US$3

VietNamNet Bridge – AirAsia on Wednesday launched tax- and fee-inclusive fares starting from US$3 for a one-way trip with Asia’s leading low-cost carrier within Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and other destinations in the group’s network.

The tickets are available on www.airasia.com or mobile.airasia.com from March 3 to 7 for travel from September 25 to February 13 next year

The sales office of AirAsia in Vietnam told the Daily that some guests in the country had successfully booked the US$3 fares. They asked guests who were still trying to book flights to be patient, as not all fares had been discounted.

However, in a statement, the airline said that they expected cheap international tickets to sell out quickly. International fares start at RM29 (US$8.5) and high demand Australian tickets to the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth are available from RM149.

Kathleen Tan, AirAsia’s regional commercial head, said the promotion would give guests the opportunity to travel to more places at a much lower price.

“AirAsia believes in catering to the needs of our guests. With the return of the ‘Big Sale’ promotion, we trust our guests’ enquiries and expectations are met,” Tan said.
She added that guests could book flights for their end of year holidays.

Currently, AirAsia and its associate airlines fly 130 routes, covering more than 70 destinations in Southeast Asia, China, Australia, India and Europe.

AirAsia and Thai AirAsia operate daily services from Malaysia and Thailand to Hanoi and HCMC. There are four weekly flights connecting HCMC and Jakarta on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with Indonesia AirAsia too.

In February, AirAsia Group acquired a 30% stake in Vietnam’s VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Co. (VietJet Air).

The deal enabled the two enterprises to form a low-cost Vietnam-based airline. Vietnam AirAsia will be the company’s fourth base, after ventures in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
